October 11, 2018 – International Girls Day
My #girlhero my mother. A graduate, majored in Psychology, one who lights up the room & continues to be the life among friends and family. She during her times, walked out from home against the wishes of her family to marry & be with the love of her life & has had her fair share of struggles but always stood by dad & continues to be the pillar of support.
An ace rifle shooter who till date can shoot a bull’s eye, an Under Officer during her time with the National Cadet Corps, Army Wing. She completed her fashion designing & technology certification in her 40’s, was awarded from IIFT (Indian Institute of Fashion Technology), New Delhi & started her own institute with 30 odd sewing machines. She taught designing, sewing & empowered women to follow their dreams. An amazing cook herself she started her own catering & restaurant business which she managed for years.
Both my parents are my biggest role models of love, struggles, life, joy, happiness… They gave us the best life, education & treated my twin brother and me equally. We were given equal opportunities & freedom to make our own decisions. They always taught me that I could be everything I wanted to be.
I am extremely grateful not only to be able to raise my own children & teach them these values but also have had the opportunity to inspire the gen next from 6 to 13 yrs with importance of being true to themselves, the importance of education, self confidence, problem solving, the need to express their own views & help them build strong confident values that support them to believe in their own potential.
